Imaginative schemes place Go North East on National Transport Awards short list
Go North East, the largest bus operator in the region, has been short listed for the Chris Moyes Award in this year’s National Transport Awards.
The submission outlines ten imaginative schemes which the company has used to help turn them into one of the best performing bus companies in the country, increasing passenger numbers by more than a million compared to this time last year.
Recent improvements made to Go North East services include the introduction of the first mobile phone bus tickets in the region; setting up a new park and ride site at MetroCentre in association with regional PTE, Nexus; being the first bus company in the region to introduce buses with Euro 5 engines and hitting the 100% mark for on-board CCTV and low floor access on its main services.
Commercial Director with Go North East, Martin Harris said, “We are obviously very pleased to have been short listed - competition in these prestigious awards is always tough. We have already made many significant improvements but are always looking for new ways to provide our passengers with top quality services.”
The National Transport Awards recognise excellence across the transport industry in UK and Ireland, rewarding innovation and progress for transport initiatives which are really working on the ground.
The winners will be presented with their awards at the National Transport Awards Dinner in London on 15 July.
